Motoziel: A Revolutionary Retail Experience

Devesh Pratyay's Award-Winning Design Merges Retail, Cafe and Bar

In the age of online shopping, physical stores face the challenge of offering compelling experiences that cannot be replicated online. Devesh Pratyay's Motoziel, a motorcycle accessories retail store in Gurgaon, India, rises to this challenge by integrating a cafe, bar, and even a barber shop into its design. This innovative approach not only creates a unique retail experience but also encourages customers to spend more time in the store, potentially increasing impulse purchases.

Pratyay's inspiration for Motoziel came from the need to differentiate the store from others in the marketplace. The designer saw an opportunity to make the physical store more appealing by offering fresh beer and freshly cooked food, services that online retailers cannot provide. The result is a multifunctional space where customers can browse through merchandise while enjoying a meal or a drink.

What sets Motoziel apart is its unique combination of services. Besides selling motorcycle accessories, the store also offers bike servicing, washing, and renting. The addition of a restaurant and a barber shop further diversifies the store's offerings, making it a one-stop destination for motorcycle enthusiasts. This multifunctional approach is a direct response to the threat posed by online retail, demonstrating the potential of physical stores to offer experiences that go beyond simple transactions.

The store's design reflects its multifunctionality. The ground floor houses a bike wash area and a travel planning desk, while the first floor features the retail store and the restaurant. The restaurant and retail areas are planned separately, but the entry and exit to the restaurant are from the main retail store area, encouraging customers to explore the merchandise.

Motoziel's design is not just innovative but also aesthetically pleasing. The material palette includes wood for the ceiling rafters, brick tiles for wall cladding, tiles for the floor, and wooden furniture. The store covers a total area of 1100 sq.mt. spread over two levels, providing ample space for its diverse offerings.

The project, which started in April 2017 and was completed in October 2017, has already received recognition for its innovative approach. Motoziel was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018, a testament to its outstanding design and innovation. With Motoziel, Pratyay has not only created a unique retail experience but also shown how physical stores can adapt and thrive in the age of online shopping.
